Collective Impact is the commitment of a group of stakeholders from different sectors to a common agenda for solving a complex social problem. In order to create lasting solutions to Environmental, Social and/or Governance (ESG) problems on a large scale, organizations, including those in government, civil society, and the business sector – need to coordinate their efforts and work together around a clearly defined goal. The goal of the Local Food Alliance is to create a healthy local food system and establish food security in the Wood River Valley. Our strategy is to coordinate local stakeholders with this common agenda.
A Backbone Organization is the “spine” of collective impact, through which all the structural ribs are supported and connected. Just as a nervous system coordinates the activities of the body, so does a backbone organization facilitate the capacity of multiple organizations, enterprises and individuals towards a common goal. It guides vision and strategy, supports aligned activities, establishes measurement practices, builds public will, advances policy, and mobilizes funding. The Local Food Alliance endeavors to play each of these roles.
