January 25, 2019

8:30 am

-

4:00 pm

Latah County Fairgrounds and Events Center, 1021 Harold Street Moscow, Idaho 83843

Join us to learn about resilience and regeneration in our local food shed, hear stories that weave together our heritage and our future of food in the Palouse-Clearwater region, and help build food alliances to leverage local food access. Keynote Merna Ann Hecht will demonstrate the power of poetry and storytelling to inspire change. Afternoon round table sessions will engage participants in the art of sharing stories to strengthen our local food system by building relationships and new collaborations.

Children are invited to attend for free and participate in the Children's Activity Room. The children's food system programs will be staffed by AmeriCorps VISTA members and WSU Center for Civic Engagement volunteers. Activities will be geared for grades K-8. Children attending the activities should be of at least pre-school age and potty trained.

Pre-registration is required by January 20. Register early! The past three Food Summits have filled to capacity. Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m; the program will start at 9:00 a.m. Registration is on a sliding scale and includes a catered lunch. A limited number of need-based scholarships are also available. Download the form to apply for a scholarship.

As part of this year's Food Summit, we will be collecting nonperishable donation items for our local food banks, and a hygiene drive that will benefit migrant farm workers in Idaho and Washington (organized in collaboration with University of Idaho's College Assistance Migrant Program and the Palouse Prairie Charter School 5th Grade Class). Hygiene items that migrant farm workers need most include sunscreen, feminine hygiene products, hand sanitizer, hand sanitizing wipes, first aid supplies (band-aids, Neosporin-like cream, etc.), and lipbalm that contains SPF. Please consider contributing to this year's foodbank and migrant farm workers hygiene drive.

The Palouse-Clearwater Food Summit is hosted by: the Palouse-Clearwater Food Coalition, the Whitman County Food Coalition, University of Idaho Extension, AmeriCorps VISTA, WSU Center for Civic Engagement, Rural Roots, the Moscow Food Co-op.

Many thanks to our sponsors for making the 2019 Summit possible, including the Moscow Food Co-op, PNW Farmers Co-op Specialty Foods, Equal Exchange Co-op, Avista, SCORE, Maialina Pizzeria Napoletan, the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and numerous community members and volunteers.
