Tubbs Berry Farm Education and Work Days

Want to learn how to prune berries? Just want an excuse to come out to the farm for some fresh air and hard work? We would love to have you join us for some of our education and work days. We will show you how we prune our berries, teach you about primo-canes and floro-canes, and let you practice pruning!

Without sounding too much like Tom Sawyer, we really do appreciate the help pruning! It is fun work (at least for the first hour according to our kids). I really enjoy the process, it gives me a chance to think as I work. I find myself reflecting on scriptures that relate pruning to our lives, and the master Gardner in charge of it all.

Feb 6 & 8 • 1-4 PM: Raspberry pruning

Feb 13 & 15 • 1-4 PM: Blackberry and Black Raspberry pruning

Who can come:  While most of our events are for the whole family but this is for ages 14 and up only. Please leave pets at home, health regulations do not allow them in produce fields.

What to bring: Dress for the weather, especially the wind. There may be some mud. Wear Gloves, Thick and warm! Raspberries have thorns! The Blackberries have none.

This time of year, there are limited services at the farm.  There will not be a kid play area or petting zoo, this will be a strictly a berry pruning experience.

Related Fun!

When we prune the blackberries, the long thorn less canes that we remove are green and flexible and great for weaving and making crafts. We will let you take some home!

Look forward to seeing you at the farm,

Kirk Tubbs
