LFA initiated the Valley's second farm to school lunch at Community School in 2016.
Community School Farm to School Lunch Program
Children & Schools
Launched in early 2017, the Sun Valley Community School 20/20 Lunch Option provides farm to table meals to more than 100 K-12 students twice each week. From January 2017 through February 2019, scratch-made meals using fresh seasonal ingredients were provided by Wood River Sustainability Center‘s Al McCord. In March 2019, James Beard-trained chef Mark Caraluzzi (formerly of Ciro Restaurant) took over as head chef. Mark now prepares fresh, organic, local, seasonal, sustainable, non-GMO meals using ingredients from family farms in the kitchen at Community School's Residence hall. Local Food Alliance played a key role in taking the farm to school lunch program from concept to exciting reality, and is now working with Mark Caraluzzi to facilitate sourcing from regional family farms.
