Set to launch in fall 2019, our new Food Asset Map will provide a digital inventory of our Wood River Valley Region food system assets. Assets include food production, processing, distribution, access, consumption, and recovery points. From commercial kitchens to cold storage, the interactive tool will display existing resources, and identify what's being underutilized or missing so we can better assist farmers and food producers in building capacity. The GIS map will be embedded onto the LFA website as a free resource for food industry stakeholders, including chefs, food entrepreneurs, and farmers, as well as the broader community.

Food asset mapping:

  • Focuses on what communities have to offer by identifying assets and resources that can be used for building a resilient food system
  • Engages the community to create an inventory of these strengths and resources
  • Leads to a more detailed understanding of community needs
  • Identifies potential partners to establish or strengthen relationships to improve reach, impact and long-term sustainability of efforts
  • Promotes community involvement, ownership and empowerment.
